NAM institutes arbitration proceedings against Dutch State to clarify compensation payable to Groningen residents for damage caused by gas extraction activities

At the beginning of February 2022, the Nederlandse Aardolie Maatschappij (NAM) launched arbitration proceedings* before the Netherlands Arbitration Institute (NAI) to have an arbitration tribunal determine the exact amount that the company must pay to the State as compensation for damage to the property of residents of the province of Groningen as a result of earthquakes in the area caused by the company's gas extraction activities.
